The coalition aims to raise £65,000 for conservation and regenerative agriculture organisations through beer production.

Toast Ale originated the creation of a coalition of 25 breweries, the Companion Series, who have joined together to accelerate action on climate change.

The IPCC report states global temperatures are set to rise by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels over the next 20 years. Therefore, Toast Ale have proposed a strategy to reduce food waste, one of the fastest and most equitable measures to tackle the climate crisis.

Food systems are currently responsible for 1/3 of GHG emissions and 80% of deforestation.

Over 1/3 of the world’s food is never eaten, resulting in unnecessarily high levels of production of greenhouse gases, in addition to the depletion of land and resources.

The Companion Series consists of various competing organisations including Brixton Brewery, Guinness, Orbit, Unity Brewing Co, and World Top Brewery, aiming to tackle this food waste crisis.

These breweries have developed a limited-edition collection of beers that uses surplus bread to prevent food waste and reduce demand for natural resources.

As COP26 is approaching, this coalition demonstrates the efforts of competing organisations to unite to help tackle our climate and nature crisis.

The project aims to raise £65,000 for conservation and regenerative agriculture organisations.

These funds will be used to protect 3.25 million trees in threatened tropical rainforests and sequester 360 tCO2 in agricultural soils.

So far, the coalition has raised £3,380 which will be used to protect 169,000 trees.
