Political dialogue on sustainable biofuels alongside COP19 in Warsaw

Growing demand for vehicle fuels calls for urgent action. Join the debate between environmental champions: representatives of local governments with cutting edge solutions for sustainable production of biofuels and the European Commission. Meet us next week in Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science

On the 19th of November in the Palace of Culture, Warsaw, alongside COP19, the project Baltic Sea Region Bioenergy Promoiotion 2 will bring together sustainability leaders from the Baltic Sea Region to discuss strategies for sustainable biofuel production and usage in urban and rural context.

Biodiversity, land use competition, life cycle approach and resource efficiency are some of the hot issues concerning production and usage of biofuels.

The event is dedicated to local and regional governments and decision makers form business and politics. The audience will have an opportunity to discuss the issues of:

  • Role of local governments in leading the market towards economically and environmentally sustainable transport fuelling and
  • Methods to achieve cross-sector integration in policies for transport and energy in urban and rural contexts
  • Building local energy independence: creating local energy supply and demand chains,

Panelists of the workshop include:

  • Jonas Ericson, representing the City of Stockholm, Clean Vehicles division;
  • Pascal Thshibanda, representing the Region of Skaraborg,  Sweden;
  • Marek Stępa, Deputy Mayor of the City of Gdynia, Poland

'EU support schemes for renewable energy, joint cooperation mechanisms' will be presented by Ms. Ruta Baltause of DG Energy, the European Commission and further topics presented and discussed in an open debate with the audiece, moderated by Sylwia Klatka of ConVoco - Consulting for Sustainable Development, will include:

  • Biogas and biomethane: potential for clean vehicle fuelling in urban and rural contexts;
  • From strategies to projects: integrated approach to local bioenergy production and usage as a way to generate economic advantage locally;

Two key case studies will also be discused and best practise shared including Biomethane: transport fuelling and grid injection and also Integrating economic and environmental goals.

The event is organised within the Bioenergy Promotion 2 project by ConVoco – Consulting for Sustainable Development, with support from the city of Warsaw.
