Brad Pitt announced his green rebuilding plans at the Clinton Global Initiaitve in Manhattan.

The Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans has suffered since Katrina and need homes.

He also challenged attendees to join him in rebuilding the Lower Ninth Ward and pledged to match $5 million in contributions to the project.

Make It Right partner, Steve Bing has also pledged to match $5 million in contributions.

"The words of one elderly man who is determined to return to New Orleans led to the name of our organisation", said Pitt.

"He asked us, directly simply and profoundly, to help make it right. So that's what we're doing. We're going to help to make it right with 150 sustainable, affordable houses - houses that stand out for their design both aesthetically and structurally, so that these people can live in beautiful safe structures that respect their spirit and provide a good quality of life."

Make It Right is committed to:

  • Building 150 houses in the Lower 9th Ward.
  • Ensuring a green, affordable, sustainable and replicable community to serve as a model for further rebuilding.
  • Forming a core team of local, national and international architects.
  • Utilising sustainable construction practices; William McDonough and Partners, an internationally recognized practitioner of Cradle to Cradle design, will lead this effot.
  • A finance plan that ensures residents who wish to return to the Lower 9th Ward can do so without further financial hardship.
