Airbus DS's corporate citizenship strategy is seeing them recognised as a socially responsible company able to respond to the sustainability and environmental challenges of tomorrow.

From telecommunications to television, security to the protection of the environment, space is playing a crucial role in our daily lives and Airbus DS's range of space solutions is enabling a better life on Earth.

The companies commitment to sustainability is at the core of their strategy and is proving a key driver of their long-term growth.

Their Corporate Social Responsibility commitment is based upon three sustainability strengths within the company: Education & Citizenship; Operations & Environment and Our People & Integrity.

-          Education & Citizenship

Airbus DS is passionate about space – its history and potential – and has a tradition of strong relationships with schools and universities. Outreach to schools to promote space and encourage technical and scientific careers is an ongoing part of the companies corporate citizenship.

Special efforts are made towards girls to keep them enthusiastic about the wide range of technical careers in which women are currently under-represented.

Airbus DS also enjoys long-term partnerships with global NGOs such as Télécoms sans Frontières or GoodPlanet and their staff are active in their communities by supporting charities and local initiatives.

-          Operations & Environment

For Airbus DS, its customers and partners, protecting the environment and securing long-term sustainability go hand in hand. Managing the operational efficiency of each site means environmental impact is reduced.

They encourage sustainability practices at all levels of company operations and within supply chain operations. Eco-conception in the design office aims to manage the environmental and health impact throughout the product’s life cycle.

In addition, many of their spacecraft, instruments, products and solutions – developed with partners and clients – serve to measure and monitor the Earth and its changes and is contributing to amore sustainable society.

Focus on sustainability:

Copernicus is the European system for monitoring the Earth which provides decision-making services to public authorities and policymakers. The system relies on Earth observation satellites and in situ sensors. The Sentinel satellites will monitor the atmosphere and measure vegetation, land cover, sea and land surface temperatures.

As Prime Contractor for ESA’s Earth Explorer programme, Airbus DS-built satellites such as CryoSAT II, SWARM and SMOS further scientific research addressing key challenges identified by the science community: surface soil moisture, ocean salinity, Earth’s magnetic field, and polar ice thickness.

Satellite imagery is an essential tool for sustainable forest management and effective decision-making. Geo-information technologies are used to map and monitor forest density and evaluate carbon sequestration potential.

-          Our People & Integrity

Airbus DS staff upholds its commitment to integrity and responsibility in their daily work and their inclusive company culture means diversity in all forms is recognised as key to competitiveness and appeal as an industry. Personal development through mentoring, training and dialogue will prepare staff and management to face future challenges.
