Alstom, the global power generation company, has secured its first wind-turbine order from South Korea-based GS Electrical Power & Services and will supply and install turbines for the 30MW Gimnyeong wind farm located in Jeju Island.

Alstom will supply and supervise the installation of 10 units of the ECO 110 onshore turbines, each with an output of 3MW.

The project is scheduled to be operational in mid-2014 and will support Korea’s target to increase the nation’s renewable energy portfolio.

Yves Rannou, Senior Vice-President at Alstom, said: “It is an honour to be a part of Korea’s dedication to increasing its renewable energy footprint and to help the country to reach the goal to grow its wind capacity to over 20 per cent of all capacity by 2027.”

South Korea has recently increased its focus on renewable energy in an effort to diversify its energy sources and raise the production of domestic energy.
