NN Investment Partners (NN IP) and Yale Initiative on Sustainable Finance (YISF) have announced a partnership in a new research stream called ‘Delivering value to investors from sustainability’.

The academic research programme will explore whether and how the integration of ESG aspects in the investment process may improve risk/return of investment portfolios. Through this research programme, NN IP and YISF aim to support the broader investment community in developing tools to achieve both financial and sustainable goals.

Jeroen Bos, head of Specialised Equity & Responsible Investing at NN IP, said: “We strongly believe that the integration of ESG aspects in the investment process improves risk/return of investment portfolios. In addition to our previous academic research on ESG, we are confident that through YISF's research stream, we can further enrich our insights to the benefit of our clients and society.”

In addition, YISF aims to produce fresh thinking and cutting-edge research on the challenges and opportunities of integrating sustainability insights into investment decisions. The research stream will explore where sustainability and financial markets meet and how investors can best use ESG-related insights in the investment process.

Diane Strauss, Research Director at the Yale Initiative on Sustainable Finance, said: “At YISF, we explore the barriers to stronger integration of sustainability concerns in investment decisions. We are primarily concerned with ESG data and its relevance to the capital markets. Testing how ESG information influences financial returns is a critical question for the industry. We believe that rigorous academic research can provide independent and thoughtful insights necessary to move capital towards a more sustainable path. This partnership with NN IP is a unique opportunity to broaden our research in this area.”
