Swiss innovation in cooling technology

In a benchmark deal signed last October in Kigali, Rwanda, 200 nations are now legally bound to cut back on hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), starting with a 10 per cent reduction by 2019 and reaching 85 per cent by 2036.
It has been discovered, that synthetic refrigerants like HFCs that are used in refrigerators and air conditioners have the highest Global Warming Potential of all.
To get around the new restrictions, industries have switched to natural refrigerants such as propane, isobutene and carbon dioxide, which are all greenhouse gases, or even ammonia - a toxic substance.
All these hazardous substances pose threat to fire safety, human health and the environment.
Swiss company MIRAI offers a viable alternative to these harmful refrigerants.
MIRAI team has spent many years researching and developing environment-friendly and commercially effective solutions for refrigeration, ventilation, heating and air conditioning.
Air Cycle refrigeration technology implies that the hot or cold air is produced through the compression or expansion of natural air.
The technology makes it possible to cut energy consumption by 30 per cent, whilst using natural air instead of HFCs.
Unique features of the developed technology are that there is no build-up of ice, no hazardous refrigerants, no risk of fire or explosion in the system.
MIRAI team created the following products based on Air Cycle technology:
MIRAI COLD
MIRAI COLD is a refrigerating machine for efficient refrigeration supply in the temperature range of –40°С to –80°С and lower.
It can be used in medical and pharma industries for storage of bio specimens, blood components or other biological materials, as well as in food industry for storage of premium quality food products.
MIRAI CLIMATE
MIRAI CLIMATE is an air handling unit. Unique technological solution includes the recuperation of heat and exhaust air in Air Cycle, which makes it energy efficient, and provides a constant supply of fresh air into premises regardless of operational conditions of the system, whilst having zero negative impact on the environment.
The machine is perfectly suitable for ventilation, air conditioning and heating of private residences with floor space upwards of 300 m2 and public facilities (e.g. educational, sport and medical facilities, shopping centres, cinema theatres, industrial facilities etc.)
Since the Kigali Deal, the search for environmentally safe refrigerants remains a priority in the global fight against climate change. The use of natural air in refrigeration and climate systems is without a doubt the most promising option.
In terms of reducing environmental footprints, the benefits of switching to Air Cycle based machines are endless. Only electricity and natural air are required to power the equipment offering a renewable, easily accessible, safe and free alternative to harmful HFC-powered products.
Moreover, the complete absence of oils, high pressure vessels, noise, vibration and dangerous chemicals such as HFCs, makes MIRAI’s products an undisputed leader in terms of human healthcare.
