ENGIE and Google enter into a 100 MW Power Purchase Agreement (Corporate PPA), for a period of 12 years, as part of the offshore wind development of the Moray West project.

ENGIE will supply Google with more than 5 TWh of green energy from the Moray West project, an offshore wind farm of nearly 900 MW, scheduled to be commissioned as early as 2025. Moray West is part of Ocean Winds' developing portfolio , a joint venture 50/50 owned by EDPR Renewables and ENGIE, dedicated to offshore wind power. Located in the Moray Firth, off the coast of Scotland, the project will provide 882 MW of renewable green energy. With this contract, ENGIE, Google and Ocean Winds are supporting the UK's ambitious energy transition goals.

“Citizens in the UK and across Europe are increasingly concerned about climate change and energy security. We share this concern and believe that technology is an important part of the solution, as it will reduce our own emissions and help others to reduce theirs,” remarked Matt BRITTIN, President of Google EMEA , adding: “This new investment in UK renewables brings us one step closer to our goal of running 100% on carbon-free energy by 2030, and means that by 2025 the UK will be running on 90% or nearly 90% carbon-free energy.

“This PPA represents the realization of offshore wind as an efficient energy source capable of meeting the high energy demands and the carbon neutrality objectives of countries and customers. Ocean Winds is proud to support Google in this adventure and to work hand in hand with ENGIE for this commercial success. By currently developing, constructing or operating over 6 GW of offshore wind projects in the UK, Ocean Winds is actively contributing to the necessary transition to clean energy ,” says Bautista RODRIGUEZ, CEO of Ocean Winds .

Google and ENGIE have entered into several corporate green PPAs and partnered on a number of key innovations and actions, such as the first 24/7 zero-carbon energy contract in Europe and a solution which uses artificial intelligence to optimize wind energy management . This new corporate PPA with Google supports both the web giant's ambition to offer zero-carbon energy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and ENGIE's clean energy strategy .

“We are very happy to support Google in its progress towards its decarbonization goal. As a major player in PPAs, ENGIE designs innovative corporate green PPAs for offshore wind buyers, thanks to the solid development of Ocean Winds, as we do for our onshore renewable energy projects. This contract demonstrates the strength of the Group's renewable portfolio, with 37 GW of renewable assets, a major asset for our customers in their decarbonization strategy" , explains Paulo ALMIRANTE, Deputy CEO of ENGIE in charge of Renewable Activities, energy and nuclear.
