Carbon Disclosure Project report highlights threat of climate change to companies

The report highlighted that in the wake of record temperatures in the U.S, floods in the U.K, Japan and Thailand and forest fires in Russia, climate change is becoming a more prevalent issue in boardrooms. The CDP report stated that nearly 40% of companies view climate change as a genuine and serious threat to their operations as opposed to 10% in 2010.

Eight out of 10 major companies now believe that their operations could be put at risk by the effects of climate change, according to a recent report by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

The report highlighted that in the wake of record temperatures in the U.S, floods in the U.K, Japan and Thailand and forest fires in Russia, climate change is becoming a more prevalent issue in boardrooms. The CDP report stated that nearly 40% of companies view climate change as a genuine and serious threat to their operations as opposed to 10% in 2010.

Of the 500 companies who responded to the CDP Global 500 survey, 379 – almost eight out of 10 - say they are now integrating climate change into their business strategy, up from 68 per cent last year.

Carbon Disclosure Project CEO, Paul Simpson, highlighted the financial implications on the worlds markets resulting from recent climatic events pushed the case for climate resilience initiatives including the recording of emissions data.
