Globescan has found that 60 per cent of citizens worldwide believe addressing climate change is good for the eceonomy - and the same number believe that government should address climate change even if it isn't.
Globescan has found that 60 per cent of citizens worldwide believe addressing climate change is good for the economy - and the same number believe that governments should address climate change even if it isn't.
The poll, which comes just 3 months before Copenhagen, could influence governments' decisions on whether to act, and how strongly to act, at home in combating climate change.
The results also reflect the majority of people's concern about the issue - of the 20,000 surveyed 88% thought climate change was either "very serious" or "somewhat serious.
"In 14 of the 19 countries where Globescan polled, the majority of people believed that addressing climate change is good for the economy.
In many countries, support for government investment in climate related business such as renewable energy and public transportation was over 70%, with Germany (79%), Japan, (79%), Canada (78%),China (76%), France (74%), Australia (74%),United Kingdom (73%), Brazil (70%), Mexico(68%) and the United States (68%) comprising the top 10. In 15 of 19 countries surveyed, a majority felt governments should invest even if it wasn't good for the economy.
