Minnesota to increase solar capacity by 700% with new $250m project

The U.S. state of Minnesota has approved a $250 million solar project that will increase the state’s solar capacity by 7 times.
The Aurora Solar Project was approved by state regulators and will boost capacity from 20 MW to 140 MW.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2016 and will push Minnesota up on the U.S. table of solar power rankings from its current position of 27th.
Solar power systems will be installed at 21 sites around the state by Geronimo Energy and electricity generated will be sold to state utility Excel.
Minnesota has a target in place to source 25 per cent of all electricity generated from renewables by 2025.
The state of Minnesota has been ranked with an “A” for solar power development, with local government implementing proactive policies on solar energy.
