Guyana’s focus on Low Carbon Development Strategy

President Donald Ramotar of Guyana addressed the second national communication report to the United Nations framework convention on climate change on Monday 13 August and highlighted Guyana's vulnerability to climate change. Through the office of climate change and other stakeholders Guyana will be focusing on implementing mitigation projects under the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).

Through the office of climate change and other stakeholders Guyana will be focusing on implementing mitigation projects under the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS). He said the LCDS clearly stands out as an example of how countries that are vulnerable to climate change and it's various effects can address issues such a deforestation to assist the global fight against climate change.

Through the office of climate change and other stakeholders Guyana will be focusing on implementing mitigation projects under the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).

He said the LCDS clearly stands out as an example of how countries that are vulnerable to climate change and it's various effects can address issues such a deforestation to assist the global fight against climate change.

President Ramotar pointed to the cooperation between Guyana and Norway where the country is being paid for preserving its forest.

The President also challenged other international partners and countries that made commitments during the RIO summit to deliver on their promises.

 Meanwhile, Head of the Office of climate change, Shyam Nokta said the report outlines Guyana's success story with regards to mitigation factors to combat climate change and some of the challenges ahead.

The second national communication report was lauded by United Nations development Programme U.N.D.P representative Khadija Musa as one that is very informative.

She praised government for fulfilling its commitment to the United Nations through its LCDS and specified the reduction of green house gas emissions, future development planning and sustainable policies and practises and particular achievements.
