Climate Change Strategy in Australia paves the way for carbon neutrality by 2060
ACT Labor, the Canberra branch of the Australian Labor party, has outlined ambitious plans to source 90% of the Australian Capital Territory's power from renewable sources by 2020.

ACT Labor, the Canberra branch of the Australian Labor party, has outlined ambitious plans to source 90% of the Australian Capital Territory's power from renewable sources by 2020.
The ACT Climate Change Strategy outlines how the Government's targets of a 40% reduction in Canberra's greenhouse gas emissions and carbon neutrality can be met by 2020 and 2060 respectively.
The strategy includes large scale solar and wind projects, significant emphasis on public transport and improving the energy efficiency of the built environment.
Environment Minister Simon Corbell has stated that alternative energy sources can cut around 1.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions.
218,000 tonnes of carbon emissions could be cut through improved energy efficiency of households. 181,000 tonnes through improved energy efficiency in the commercial sector. 138,000 tonnes through improvements to public transport and 1.5 million tonnes through large-scale solar and wind projects.
Mr Corbell says the plan will be introduced in stages and includes measures to minimise the cost to households.
