PepsiCo have signed a deal with Loop Industries to introduce 100 per cent recycled plastic packaging.

PepsiCo, who own brands such as Walkers and Pepsi, will purchase production capacity from Loop’s joint venture facility in the United States and incorporate Loop’s PET plastic, which is 100 per cent recycled material, into its product packaging by 2020.

The two companies have entered into a multi-year supply agreement that will enable PepsiCo to not only decrease the amount of plastic they use but also to raise consumer awareness of recycling and the circular economy through marketing and communications.

Loop is a company that’s mission is to increase the world’s reliance on sustainable plastic. To do this, they have created revolutionary technology poised to transform the plastics industry.

Dr. Mehmood Khan, Vice Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer at PepsiCo, said: “Loop’s technology enables PepsiCo to be a leading force in ensuring plastic packaging need never become waste. This partnership represents a step-change that will empower PepsiCo in our drive towards creating a circular economy for plastics.”

Daniel Solomita, Founder and CEO of Loop Industries, said: “We are very proud to supply PepsiCo with Loop™ branded PET plastic. Working with a global food and beverage giant like PepsiCo will further establish the value proposition of the Loop brand and mission – to accelerate the world’s shift toward sustainable plastic and away from the traditional, take, make and dispose economy.”

PepsiCo have also set a goal to achieve zero waste to landfill across all of their direct operations through efficient and responsible waste management by 2025.
