Climate Action

Fundación Natura

Fundación Natura is a Colombian civil society organisation that, for more than 30 years, has been dedicated to finding solutions for sustainability and the conservation of biodiversity, way beyond areas of conservation, which is also one of its working areas.

One of the main lessons, learned and applied, is the need to work holistically in socio-ecosystem spaces; it means, working comprehensively the relationship between human beings, all other forms of life and biophysical spaces: therefore, working locally, with regional perspective, to meet the challenges of global environmental change including climate change.

In terms of climate change management, Fundación Natura has carried out several initiatives where the aim was to reduce carbon intensity and GHG emissions, and to build adaptation strategies for sectors and territories:

  • MVC Colombia, aimed at promoting voluntary mitigation actions from Colombian institutions and organisations, providing the basis for a national voluntary carbon market
  • CarbonoCero initiative, a programme that aims at supporting Colombian companies in measuring, managing and offsetting their carbon footprint.
  • Vulnerability analysis and adaptation strategy for the so called “Corredor de Conservación de Robles”, and other areas in Orinoquia, Huila and Antioquia.

Besides, Fundación Natura has participated in several processes of GCC policy design; worth to be mentioned are: Colombia´s Low Carbon Development Strategy, National REDD+ Strategy, implementation of REM programme in Colombia, and the work plans for the Norandino and Orinoquia Climate Regional Hubs.
