The host country for WED 2015 is Italy and the theme this year is "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.”
Hosted on June 5, the day has grown into a global platform for public outreach and is widely celebrated by in over 100 countries.
WED was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 and is the UNs main vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment.
